FULL SHOW (16 April) Time out of fight or flight, and learning to rest & digest

Category: Science & Medicine
Duration: 00:44:54
Publish Date: 2020-04-20 10:26:18
Description:

For the last show of the week, Sarah chats to another group of great guests. With international travel seeming far away, it’s now more important than ever to appreciate what we’ve got in our own back yard, so Sarah asks where are the best places in New Zealand to visit? Send us your suggestions for NZ newbie producer Joel!

Sarah’s first guest this evening is Kylie Stewart of Rangitikei Farmstay, a hotspot for international tourists to learn about Kiwi lifestyles and how an operational farm works. Since the lockdown, Kylie and her husband Andrew have had to innovate and create a new offering for self-isolating tourists from home and abroad.

Then, Sarah chats to Tim ‘Blackie’ Black from Black & Co. With 25 years experience in the industry, Tim tells us how the wool industry has changed since the Covid-19 outbreak began. It’s not a great time to be in wool, or retail and hospitality, but Tim tells us about his plans for Black & Co’s lounge bar and shops too.

Sarah is joined by Rabobank’s Michael Harvey to discuss the economic turmoil that’s come from the Covid-19 crisis. Michael explains what changes are happening to give food a longer life and avoid milk going down the drain.

Then to wrap up the show, Primary Industries Ministry’s new head of Mycoplasma bovis eradication Stuart Anderson takes your questions on the steps forward and the ways he will do things differently.

Sarah Perriam, the host of Sarah's Country, is joined in self-isolation still broadcasting from the Lincoln University campus as an ‘essential service’ with her guest co-host, her Irish producer, Joel Rock.

Guests on this week’s show:

1. “Bouncing forward with virtual farm tourism” with Kylie Stewart of Rangitikei Farmstay

2. “Solving the woes of the wool industry” with Tim Black, Black & Co

3. “Dealing with the economic impact of covid-19” with Michael Harvey, Rabobank

4. “Working with farmers to move M. Bovis eradication forwards” with Stuart Anderson, MPI
