FULL SHOW (4 May) Our first day COVID-19 free

Category: Science & Medicine
Duration: 00:59:21
Publish Date: 2020-05-04 11:06:03
Description:

Welcome to another episode of Sarah’s Country. Sarah is joined again by four great guests to talk about the matters that matter most.

Native birds have returned and water quality has improved since the Broughs took over Paerua about 20 years ago – reflecting their respect for the land, animals, soil and water. We celebrate their 2020 Ballance Farm Environment win with Mark and Felicity Brough and ask why environmental stewardship is so important post-covid-19.

Save a life, listen to your wife. That's the message coming from Safer Farms campaign #plantaseedforsafety set to bring stronger awareness to on-farm health and safety. We are joined by Australian founder Alex Thomas and Safer Farms’ Harriet Bremner.

Donald Pearson left a farm to NZ Young Farmers in his will to help educate urban Kiwis about farming. We chat with the newly appointed farm manager Sam Waugh about this exciting opportunity.

We are taking lots of topics to Agriculture Minister Damien O'Connor, such as how the Primary Industries Ministry can direct drought funding to the right places, the demand for sale yards to re-open with mounting animal welfare issues and how the primary sector is going to attract 50,000 workers.

Sarah Perriam, the host of Sarah's Country, is joined in self-isolation still broadcasting from the Lincoln University campus as an ‘essential service’ with her guest co-host, her Irish producer, Joel Rock.
