Rapid changes to aviation rules underway

Description: Twenty years worth of work to change 23 rules governing the aviation sector - will happen in just two years - the Government has confirmed. The changes to the Civil Aviation Authority's rules aim to cut red tape, align New Zealand's rules more closely to international standards, and allow greater scope for innovation and growth. Changes include a review of pilot licensing, easier access to drones - particularly for farmers and growers, and more flexibility around carrying portable electronic devices on flights. The decision to expidite the many rule changes has been roundly applauded by airline and airport industry groups. James Meager is Associate Minister of Transport.
