Description: We're a nation of Kiwis but many New Zealanders have never seen the bird they're named after in the wild. So when a project to bring the national icon back to the capital was hatched in 2016 most people thought it was crazy. The Capital Kiwi Project aims to restore a large scale wild kiwi population to Wellington's hillsides - from Red Rocks on the south coast to west of Porirua. A decade on, the kiwi are thriving - and when the latest group is released in April there will be 250 kiwi living in Wellington. Founder of the Capital Kiwi Project Paul Ward spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
