With Christmas just around the corner, some post offices are short on stamps.

NZ Post says it's the busiest time of year, and with so many items being shipped, stamps urgently need restocking.

One used for international letters has essentially sold out forcing the use of multiples to make up the amount, draining supplies.

Postal Workers Union National President John Maynard says it's one of several issues affecting the mail service industry.
