Description:

Don begins the show by reflecting on the Senate vote on the Jan. 6 commission by asking a harrowing question: are there even 10 Republicans who will defend democracy and vote for the commission’s creation? He explores Donald Trump’s iron grip on Republicans and explains why his influence means the GOP would rather forget Jan. 6 than learn the truth.

Rep. Jamie Raskin, known for his role as Lead Impeachment Manager after the Jan. 6 insurrection, joins Don to explain that Republicans are elevating their own political interests above what’s best for the country. Paul Krugman of the New York Times goes deeper on the changes of the GOP.

Later, Rep. Joe Neguse and Don discuss Senator Mitch McConnel’s request that Republican senators vote against the Jan. 6 commission as a personal favor.  Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson explores what Republicans’ current behavior means for the next presidential election in 2024.

After Paul Ryan criticized Donald Trump’s hold on the GOP, his former Top Aide Brendan Buck and CNN Sr. Political Analyst, Kirsten Powers weigh in on how the Republican party is on the path to becoming “the party of the wilderness” due to its commitment to the former president.

Presidential Historian Jon Meacham joins to put the of the Republican party’s current state into historical perspective and explain how the GOP’s fringe politics have taken over the mainstream.

As we approach the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre, the Department of Homeland Security issued a preventative cautionary message saying that commemorative events could be a target for white supremacists. CNN Senior Law Enforcement Analyst Andrew McCabe joins to explain the current threat of domestic white supremacists and points out that these extremists are sometimes motivated by relevant dates.

Finally, CNN Correspondent Donie O’Sullivan joins Don to discuss the comments that Rep. Matt Gaetz and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene made at a rally, including a comment in which Green likened Democrats to Nazis.
