President Biden announces he will stick to his August 31 deadline for U.S. Troops to leave Afghanistan, as the pace of Afghan evacuations hits an all-time high at 12,700 people in 24 hours. However, senior administration officials have admitted that many deserving Afghans who the U.S. wanted to help will be left behind. The Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, will have a detailed report on the number of Americans still left in the country, tomorrow. Former Defense Secretary William Cohen joins to give his perspective.

In pandemic news, the White House is making progress in getting more Americans vaccinated with 6 million shots being the highest seven-day total in a month and a half. The delta variant is spreading and is averaging more than 1,000 Covid deaths daily. Hospitalizations tripled over the past month and the number of children testing positive for Covid is now at levels not seen since last winter. 5 to 11-year-olds are the next group for FDA vaccination approval.

The House has approved the budget frame work that will pave the way for Democrats to spend $3.5 trillion on a sweeping economic package, and has also passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, 219-212. CNN’s John Harwood and Ron Brownstein join to discuss.

The President has been given a classified briefing on the findings of his 90-day review on the origins of Covid-19.
