Conditions are growing direr in Louisiana in the wake of hurricane Ida. Heavy rain, tornadoes and floods also batter parts of the North East with 200,000 plus people without power. Massive flooding is reported in NYC with nearly all subway services suspended. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has declared a state of emergency.

More than 23,000 at risk Afghans have arrived in the U.S. but a senior State Department official has said that the majority of Afghans who worked for the American Government during the war were likely left behind. General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff says he feels pain and anger over Afghanistan.

White supremacist and domestic extremist praise of the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan concerns U.S. officials, with the Department of Homeland Security saying these terror groups want a civil war using the Taliban takeover as a model. Right wing commentators continue to stoke fear about Afghan refugees coming to the U.S.

Controversial podcast host Joe Rogan announces he has Covid and is taking the un-proven horse de-worming drug Ivermectin, after questioning FDA approved vaccines. The U.S. is averaging more than 160,000 new Covid cases per day.

The most extreme abortion law in the U.S. takes effect in Texas. The law, which bans abortions at six weeks with no exceptions, allows private citizens to sue anyone who assists including doctors and family members. Even Uber drivers who provide transport to abortion appointments could face lawsuits.
