Whether it’s earthquakes and wildfires on the west coast, tornadoes on the plains, tropical storms and hurricanes in the south, or major snowstorms in the northeast, Emergency Managers have to be ready for a variety of disaster scenarios depending on where they are located. However, while the locations and the type of disasters vary, the principles of readiness, mitigation, and response are pretty universal.
This week’s guest on the Disaster Tough Podcast, Shad Ahmed knows this well. While Shad currently serves as the Director of the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management (PBEM), his previous experience working with a variety of agencies on the east coast, namely the City of Lowell and Town of Windham in Massachusetts.
