Recent research has shown why and how to manage soil variability under irrigation, while tech advances, such as smartphone apps, have made it a lot easier to do. Carolyn Hedley, from Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research talks with Alison Stewart about the outcomes of the government funded Maximising the Value of Irrigation project, which had a major focus on arable soils.
Co-funders of the project included FAR, Vegetable Research & Innovation Board, Hawke's Bay Regional Council, Environment Canterbury, Irrigation NZ, Ministry for Primary Industries and DairyNZ.
