Country Life is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. As part of that, we are re-surfacing some of the stories which have engaged listeners and readers over the years. This is one of them.
Castle Hill is a large and spectacular Canterbury high country station. Back in 2008 Cosmo Kentish-Barnes was there to meet Christine Fernyhough, who was learning how to be a successful farmer. Just four years before, the philanthropist, educator and author of The Road to Castle Hill had made a huge change midlife, going from the bright lights of Auckland to hands-on farming.
In 2019, Christine moved to 25 acres on the clay soils at Hakaru in Northland, midway between Mangawhai and Kaiwaka, an hour and a half north of Auckland. |
