Mike, because mic. Get it? Get it? Ok, let's carry on.
Understanding a language goes way beyond understanding grammar or words. It has to do with culture, society and the sense of humor of its speakers. Today we'll talk about something that you may need to listen more carefully if you want to fully understand it; puns. SHOW NOTES:• A pun is the humorous use of a word or phrase so as to emphasize or suggest its different meanings or applications, or the use of words that are alike or nearly alike in sound but different in meaning; a play on words. • Some puns play with the sound of words, which can be understood as something different. For instance, “The wedding was so emotional that even the cake was in tiers.” • SOME PUNS PLAY WITH THE MANY INTERPRETATIONS ONE CAN MAKE OF A PHRASE. Some puns play with the many interpretations one can make of a phrase. For instance, "Did you hear about the guy who got hit in the head with a can of soda? He was lucky it was a soft drink." • Here I will leave for you some puns I left unexplained. Can you figure out what they mean? Do you know any other puns you'd like to share with us? Let me know in the comments. After kissing a girl in back of the gym for several hours I said, "You know, this isn't working out.” I couldn't quite remember how to throw a boomerang, but eventually it came back to me. I always take a second pair of pants when I go golfing... in case I get a hole in one. To the guy who invented Zero: Thanks for nothing!
