Season 16, Episode 80 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday afternoon episode, Alex Kozora and I get right back into discussing everything related to the Pittsburgh Steelers continuing to search for their next head coach.
The Steelers have signed several players to Reserve/Future contracts since our last show, so Alex and I make sure to catch listeners up on all of the recent transactions made by the team.
The Steelers will reportedly allow all coaches currently under contract with the team to interview for other jobs, so Alex and I discuss that news. We also go over the brief list of current coaches under contract that at least have a small chance of being retained once a new head coach is hired.
Three more head coach candidates now have interviews set with the Steelers since our last show so that means Alex and I must discuss Klay Kubiak, Ejiro Evero, and Jeff Hafley being added to the list, which now sits at eight in total.
Alex wrote a detailed post on Friday on why Hafley is his favorite choice to be the Steelers new head coach, so we go through a lot of his thoughts on that. We also go over reasons why Hafley might not be the perfect choice to succeed Mike Tomlin.
Alex and I talk a little bit about my favorite candidate at this point to be the Steelers new head coach, Chris Shula. We also discuss a few other candidates that might get interviews in the coming days.
A few of the candidates have interesting links to certain players, both currently on the Steelers and on other teams, so there are some conversations to be had concerning that topic.
With a lot of readers and listeners having questions about Steelers OLB T.J. Watt and whether he might be tradeable this offseason, Alex and I dive into his current contract situation, the financials related to his salary and possible dead money, and the probability related to him being dealt before the 2026 NFL Draft gets underway in late April.
Later in this episode the news breaks that special teams coordinator Danny Smith is interviewing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so we make sure to hit on that item.
Alex and I then give our picks against the spread for the four NFL Divisional round playoff games that will take place this weekend based on the betting lines provided by show sponsor MyBookie.ag.
This 122-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted above and we close things out by answering a few emails we have received from listeners.
