The Church Street Mural Project

Category: Society & Culture
Duration: 01:01:00
Publish Date: 2013-10-28 18:00:00
Description: The Church Street Mural Project will adorn walls up and down Church Street, from the south-facing wall of The Marquis of Granby pub to the northernmost mural on the 519 Church Street Community Centre. It involves 25 artists, and is a key part of the Toronto community's preparation for World Pride 2014.    Syrus Marcus Ware is one of the project co-ordinators of this massive project. We will talk to him during the first half hour about the project, it's history, the process of selecting artists, and anything else from behind the scenes that he wants to share.    We will then talk to Lily Butter at around half-way through the show. Lily is an incredibly unique artist, and she has created a 90 feet wide project that is called "Ultra Church, 50 VIP Party People 1948-2014". This piece contains dozens of portraits of people who have been integral in the LGBT party scene over the past 60 years. Mandy Goodhandy and Todd Klinck are honoured to be two of the people included.
