Description:

Originally from the cold white north in Saskatchewan, Canada, Parrish Konda worked in sales. He now lives in the capital city of Yucatan, Merida. Parrish can’t imagine ever going back to his previous life. He, along with his business partner, is building a residential condo development that sits on the emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico in a little town named Progreso.

During today’s episode, Parrish shares the story of his first trip to Mexico, why he stays and his favorite places in Mahahual, the first pueblo he called home here.

Parrish came to Mahahual two years ago based on a friend’s recommendation.  He loves the beaches, the views, and the adventurous beach road. When his friends make their annual visit they always go to Mahahual.

Things to do in Mahahual:

● Diving

● Visit the Costa Maya Water Park

● Birding — Over 200 species of birds frequent the area.

● Drive to Bacalar’s Lagoon of 7 Colors.

● Drink margaritas on the beach.

Parrish lives in Merida, also known as the White City.  It’s a colonial town with new boutique shops and wine bars popping up along its cobblestone streets. Parrish loves the laid-back lifestyle in Mexico, the people, and their culture. His only regret, he says, is not making the move sooner.

Merida’s Mercado 60 is a unique food truck park that features live music and dancing in the evenings.

The condo development Parrish is working to create is in Progreso.

Things to do near Progreso:

● Visit the Dzibilchaltun Ruins.

● Visit the Uxmal Ruins.

● See the flamingos at Celestun Biosphere Reserve (Nov-Dec).
