Walton’s ‘Lost World’ books offer such a radical rethink of the biblical text that one wonders how the church could have gotten it so wrong for so long. Longman and Walton say you can tell that a passage is figurative when you “have to work hard to take it any other way” but, concerning the historical Flood account, they are the ones having to dance around the plain sense of the text.
