Are you a young leader looking for people to respect you more? This episode will help! One time I was interviewing someone who wanted to work at SPS and I said: “you’re a lot older than me and you’ll report directly to me. Is that going to be a problem?" I was terrified about my age, and whether or not people would want to listen to me or “follow” me as their leader. My whole life I’ve been the youngest person in the room... …almost always hiring and managing people who were older than me. When I was younger, I thought this was a bad thing. I thought people wouldn’t respect me or take me seriously. When I went to events or conferences, I’d wear a suit and tie…or suspenders and a bowtie…hoping that would make people take me seriously. Then I realized it was all in my head. |
