Cooking Stoves in the Developing World

Description: For millions of refugees in makeshift camps in the Darfur region of western Sudan, collecting firewood for their cooking stoves is difficult, dangerous, and the stoves produces a great deal of carbon dioxide. After visiting the region, researchers at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory with students at the University of California, Berkeley and volunteers from Engineers Without Borders developed the “Berkeley-Darfur Stove”, a stove four times more fuel efficient than the 3-stone fires traditionally used in Darfur.
