A workforce pipeline is being built in Northern New Mexico, beginning with early childhood development and stretching all the way up to advanced degrees. Los Alamos National Laboratory pulls talent from its own backyard at Northern New Mexico College (NNMC). Initiatives to get girls interested in STEM fields, robot-building competitions and a recent transition from a two-year to a four-year institution have people looking to NNMC for what they'll do next.
Los Alamos National Security, LLC (LANS) is the company that manages the Lab. They began investing in workforce development initiatives more than six years ago, beginning with the nursing and education programs at NNMC. New Mexico's largest health system recently called NNMC nursing graduates their best employees. Now, LANS is making investments in the Chemistry department at NNMC to allow students to have more hands-on experiences |
