BOOK: Incarcerated But Free: How to Find Freedom From Your Mental Prison by Monique Pettaway-Ray Six months after newlywed Monique Pettaway-Ray landed her first teaching job as an eighth-grade science instructorin Huntsville, Alabama, her world suddenly imploded. Her husband was convicted for murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Incarcerated but Free shares how Monique broke the bars of her mental prison and embarked on a path to help families of incarcerated individuals find hope and healing. She is a graduate of Satsuma High School and joined the Army National Guard, where she completed nine years of service. From there, she attended Alabama A & M University, where she received a history and biology degree in secondary education. Monique began her teaching career in north Alabama teaching eighth grade science. She then returned to Mobile, where she continued her teaching career as a seventh-grade science and social studies teacher. She received her master’s degree from Troy State University in public administration, concentrating in public personnel. A second master’s from Nova Southeastern University in Educational Leadership: Educational Specialist Degree. Monique received her call to the ministry in 2005. She is a certified Christian life coach. Monique enjoys reading and traveling. Reading includes spiritual, motivational and self-help books. She also enjoys listening to gospel, Christian and jazz music.
