The Council is a public policy group sponsored by local businesses, its Economic Institute is a think tank that focuses on critical issues facing the Bay Area region. Among the issues, of course: jobs, housing and transportation. We begin with a recent report on the Bay Area economy as a whole--we always hear about how California is the fifth or sixth largest economy in the world, depending on who is crunching the numbers and when. But, the Bay Area on its own would be a pretty significant economic power.
