Description:

This month’s footnote is an early 2019 presentation to the Bootmakers of Toronto by Mimi Okabe, a PhD in Comparative Literature at the University of Alberta, where in 2017 she designed and taught her dream course, “Sherlock Holmes and the Transcultural Imagination.” The full title of Dr. Okabe’s paper is “From Wiggins and Beyond: Representations of the Unofficial Force in Japanese Popular Culture.” Her broader research “advances new insights in Japanese Studies as it explores children’s mystery stories appearing in Japanese manga, focusing on how the global figure of the boy sleuth has changed over time.”
