As one of seven children, Lesley Meaney had to do something extraordinary to stand out. Back in 1969, she became the first woman to swim between the home of the quokka, Rottnest Island, and mainland Australia.
Lesley was warned against attempting the 20km swim because she was a woman. But she didn’t let that or the sharks get between her and the history books.
Now, almost 50 years on, this grandmother is an accomplished artist who has a giant swing in her art studio.
How do you live by your own rules? Let’s have a good chat with Lesley Meaney, a woman to inspire my daughter.
