When people experience a clear hashgachat Hashem in their lives, they feel so special. They realize that Hashem was intimately involved in their experience. He knew about their actions, their thoughts, their emotions and He was leading them the entire time. It is so important for us to know that Hashem is always with us. We are always being taken care of wherever we are, whatever situation we find ourselves in. Two young ladies told me they went out one night to attend a class in a shul which was scheduled for 8:30. They arrived there just about on time, but they couldn’t find a parking spot. They said they literally circled the area for almost an hour until they finally found a spot. Many times they contemplated going home, but they kept pushing themselves because they wanted to become inspired by the rabbi who was giving the class. By the time they walked into the room, they saw everyone had already left; it was all over. They said to each other, “We came to learn, so let’s open up a book and read together.” They opened up to a piece on emunah, and as they were reading, they felt like Hashem was talking to them through every word that was there. It was the perfect chizuk for them, just what they needed to hear, after circling for an hour to find a parking spot. They also asked me afterward for some more clarification, “Doesn’t Hashem want us to go to class? Why didn’t He let us find that parking spot?” I told them that it must be He knew you would gain more spiritually from what you experienced than you would have from the class itself. Your realization that Hashem was in charge of the parking and your acceptance of His will was a great avodah . And then, because of your persistence to get to the class and continuing to look for the parking spot, Hashem showed you He was with you by leading you to that piece on emunah which gave you so much chizuk . Hashem always puts everyone in the best possible scenarios for them, whether we understand it or not. A man told me he needed to say Kaddish and get an aliyah to the Sefer Torah a couple of Shabbatot ago for his father’s yahrtzeit . His father had passed away 24 years ago, when he was 17, and he was always very shy about it. He was shy about saying Kaddish, he was shy about getting an aliyah . This year he has become much more spiritual and, for the first time, he was ready to honor his father on his yahrtzeit the way it should be done. He called the shul in advance and donated the Shabbat morning Kiddush in his memory. He made sure they would have an aliyah reserved for him. And when the day came, he brought his son with him to shul and explained to him the significance of the yahrtzeit . When he was called up for the aliyah , he noticed a plaque on the Sefer Torah and it said that it was donated in memory of Avraham ben Sarah which was the same name as his father. He felt such a good feeling, like his father was telling him he appreciates his efforts and he sees what he’s doing. He found out afterward, another man in that shul also had a yahrtzeit that day, and he had donated that Torah for his father who happened to have the same name. He called the shul and asked them to please use that Torah on this Shabbat. That Torah had been locked in a safe in a building next door and hadn’t been used in a very long time. Specifically for this Shabbat in which this man got his aliyah , it was taken out to be used. The man told me he knows so clearly, everything is orchestrated by Hashem. Hashem arranged for him to get that aliyah with a Torah that had his father’s name on it. He is so excited to continue growing spiritually with his son and getting even closer to Hashem. Hashem is with us all the time. When we pay attention and notice His presence, we’ll also have that special feeling of closeness to Him. |
