Hashem is So Exacting

Description: Hashem is So Exacting A man came to Rabbi Lugasi, his rabbi, with the following question. He had lost a few hundred dollars. He is not a man of means-- it was money that he needed. He strengthened himself with Emunah and said, "It's from Heaven," and he moved on. The next day he found something which he had lost in Shul some time before through clear Hashgacha Peratit . This item, however, was only worth a few dollars. So, he asked the rabbi, "Why would Hashem help me find something worth a few dollars, and not help me with a few hundred dollars? This item I don't even care about-- but the money, I really need!" The rabbi replied, "Hashem is so exacting. If a person needs to lose $300 dollars, then he will lose $300 and not $305. Every dollar is calculated. The hundreds that you lost, you needed to lose. This item, you didn't need to lose. This should actually give you Chizuk that the $300-loss was not random. This shows that just as Hashem was involved in the petty item, He was also involved in the more important item." Sometimes people go through difficult situations, and they see Hashem helping them in a very small part of them. They could either say, "I don't really need help with this; I need the whole problem to go away!" Or they could say, "I see Hashem so clearly here. It must be that He is involved in every part of this situation. And even though I could use much more help, if Hashem is deciding that this is what I need at the moment, then I will accept it with Emunah." When Yosef the Tsaddik was being taken down to Egypt by the Yishmaelim to be sold as a slave, out of the ordinary, they were carrying beautiful smelling fragrances. It was clearly the hand of Hashem so that Yosef should not have to smell the foul smelling odors that they normally carry. One could ask, however, does Yosef really care about what he smells when he is experiencing the worst moment of his life? The answer is that it was that Hashgacha Peratit which gave Yosef the Chizu k to know that Hashem is with him in this very hard time of his life. If this is happening, it must be for his best. A man told me that a while back his father had a certain treatment for his cancer scheduled at the Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan . He was in New Jersey at the time, and knew that his friend drives to the city every day, into midtown, so he asked him for a ride. He did not want to trouble him to go out of his way, so he made it as if he was going to his area, and then he was going to take a taxi after to the hospital. He fell asleep in the car. When he woke up, he noticed that they were just a couple of blocks away from the hospital that he needed to go to, so he asked his friend, "Why are we over here?" The friend said, "I missed the exit for the George Washington Bridge , so I had to take the Lincoln Tunnel instead. This is where it let me out. I have been driving this route for 30 years, and this is the first time I have ever missed the exit! I'm sorry." As they were driving by the hospital, the man said, "It's okay. I'll get out over here. Thank you very much." The man said afterwards that he was going through a very dark time in his life. That was a very small and simple Hashgacha from Hashem. But it gave him so much strength. He realized that Hashem was not just sending him to the hospital. He said, "Hashem was coming with me to the hospital." The head of the Misaskim organization told me that they give out 1,900 packages on Chanukah to orphans. This past Chanukah a school teacher called the organization with the following story. She said that the day before, one of her students who was an orphan was telling her how hard Chanukah is for her- not having the family that everyone else has, and not getting presents like them. That same night, she received a package from Misaskim. She called her teacher and told her that she felt like she just got a hug from Hashem. Hashem cared so much about her and gave her presents like everybody else." There again, this little girl has a very difficult situation that she is dealing with. Her situation did not get fixed. But the realization that Hashem is with her gave her so much Chizuk. We all get little messages from Hashem. They may not be the answers to our problem, but they should give us Chizuk that He is always with us.
