The Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail covers over 1200 miles and follows the historic route of the 1775-76 Spanish Anza expedition from Sonora, Mexico, to San Francisco, CA. Along the way, it passes through the homelands of more than 70 tribal communities. In this special episode, I interview Jorge del Castillo, who has traveled the whole length of the Anza Trail. Jorge and I met at a commemoration of the expedition's arrival at the Presidio in San Francisco organized by the descendants of that very expedition. In our conversation, you will hear what prompted Jorge to travel the whole trail, his pride in his Mexican-American heritage, and his love of the history that binds together California, Mexico and the rest of the Southwest. He has some great stories to tell, and his enthusiasm is contagious. Support the showLearn more about the California Frontier Project: Contact: damian@californiafrontier.net |
