India gets only 1.64% of all global tourists and the pandemic has played havoc with the travel and tourism industry. This sector hires more women than average and also provides jobs to a disproportionate number of young people and success in this space can fix many of India’s problems. Sridhar Krishna and Anupriya Mohta discuss how the Indian tourism industry has been on a decline since a little before the pandemic. However this sector has an opportunity to contribute close to 2.4M jobs per year over the next decade.
