Social ostracism and a lack of alternatives have forced generations of families from lower castes to continue indulging in manual scavenging as their daily jobs. There has been a failure in properly executing laws, programmes, and schemes already in place. It is time that we have solutions that are technologically apt, economically driven, and socially responsible.
