It is Monday morning, 7th December 2020, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for the day. 1 Thessalonians, chapter 5 and verse 17: “Pray without ceasing”. Make your life a prayer. You might say, “What is prayer?” Well, I looked up the Oxford Dictionary - “An earnest hope or wish”. Jesus spent many hours and nights in prayer. You and I need to do the same. You know, I can hear very clearly, the relationship that a person has with God when he starts to pray. I want to read you a prayer. It is called, “The Farmer and The Lord.” While resting the other evening By the side of the road I saw an old farmer In the field that he had just sowed. His face was all brown And wrinkled from the sun and by the wind And he was taking’ to the Lord Just like He would be talking to a friend. “Well, Sir”, he said With his voice calm and quiet “Them corn tassels need stacking I have got no strength to tie it. Had no rain in so long That the fields are mighty dusty, And it's been so unbearably hot That the kids were even getting fussy. Now that grass down at the pasture It should be knee high, If we could just have a little shower, Lord It might keep the cow from going dry. Oh but, listen to me talking You'd think I wasn’t ungrateful Why, if you didn't know me so well Lord, You'd think I was down right hateful. You'd think I'd forgot about The new calf that you sent, And the money in the mail That took care of the rent. Mama’ s cough is much better And Johnny's coming home from the Navy, And that good Sunday dinner Of chicken and dumplings and gravy. And that new preacher you sent to us Lord He is such a fine young man Why he's converting them sinners To the beat the band. Well, I guess I'll mossy on home now Lord I won't take no more of your time, Guess there's plenty of folks here-about Waiting to ring your line. Evening to You Lord And watch over us tonight And don't You worry none about us Lord Cause everything gonna be just alright…’ What a beautiful prayer! Spend time this week speaking to your Friend and He will strengthen you and He will direct your path. |
