Description:
“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
– Buckmister Fuller, American architect, systems theorist, author, designer, inventor, and futurist.

The number of years a company sits in the S&P 500 is shrinking. In the 1970s companies were part the S&P 500 for 30 to 35 years. Now the the length of time companies are staying in the index has shortened to between 15 to 20 years. The business landscape is evolving exponentially. In order for businesses to surf these waves of change they need to know how (and when) to innovate.

Today we’re speaking with Kimberly Crumm, an experienced entrepreneur and the founder of the Vaxthus Group, a consultancy that teams with clients to create breakthrough strategies and increase organizational capacity for strategic innovation.

Topics discussed include:

  • The source of innovation.
  • How organic innovation creates a “gray organization” within a business and why it can be detrimental in the long term.
  • Why innovation for the sake of innovation is a revenue drain.
  • How to identify (and harness) the natural innovators within your business.
  • Why complaining customers (or staff) can be so valuable to innovation projects.
  • Why entrepreneurs should go through the mental exercise of killing their idea.

Kimberly Crumm is an experienced executive with a results-oriented mindset and a passion for mission-driven entrepreneurship, capable of planning, implementing, and defining strategic direction and vision. She facilitates cross-functional collaboration, evaluates, and optimizes performance across all business disciplines. She is an expert at leveraging organizational strengths across programs and regions to address new opportunities and/or challenges.

Operating under the principles of building business ecosystems she has teamed with clients to create and grow businesses across the country. She is currently writing a book to share her insights and business tools. It is slated to be released in the early summer of 2022.
