Description:
In the phrase ‘doing well by doing good,’ the word ‘by” is important. It means that a company can improve its bottom line – shareholder value – as a consequence of creating positive results for other stakeholders and for society.”

~ Bill Novelli, Good Business: The Talk, Fight, Win Way to Change the World (Johns Hopkins University Press; February 2021)

In Bill Novelli’s new book he shares his personal career journey, demonstrating how we can use our personal gifts, values and passion to find meaning, fulfillment and professional success. Using his personal experiences he shows how business, society and government come together to change the world for the better.

In today’s podcast Bill discusses his book and how his guiding purpose has been brought into everything he does.

Topics include:

  • The personal epiphany that changed his life and established the through-line of his career.
  • Why government is critical to changing societal normative behavior.
  • Why he believes that leadership isn’t innate and that people working in the “middle” are critical to organizational culture change.
  • What he means when he says that, ‘Problems worthy of attack, attack back.’
  • Why shaming individuals doesn’t work, but stressing the system does.
  • Why it’s important to always ask the third question.
