Did you know that turtles can talk? Scientists spying on turtles with hydrophones record all sorts of vocal communication between turtle adults and hatchlings.
The discovery surprised many! Only younger humans are able to hear the low-frequency turtle talk. In captivity, turtles become shy and stop talking altogether. Boat motors and other noise pollution also makes them shush.
Dr Carla Eisemberg, ecologist, tells us that believing in turtle talk used to be a secret. But once turtle vocalisations were recorded, all the researchers admitted... "Yes! I always thought I heard them talk too!"

Huge thank you to new Mum, Dr Carla, for making time to share turtle stories with us. |
