Description:

Zereena’s teachers gave her the confidence to aim higher.

She now works at the heart of UK democracy.

Zereena joined The NCS in its founding year, setting a precedent for the many students who followed.

From feeling unsure of her path at 16, she then became our first student to study at Oxford and is now advising MPs in Parliament. Her journey embodies the ambition and self-belief that define our students and The NCS vision.

Zereena was among the very first students to experience the transformative environment of The NCS. Encouraged by her teachers to reach beyond her expectations, she applied to the University of Oxford—something she never thought possible before joining. As an alumni, she graduated with a degree in English from Corpus Christi College and soon found her passion for politics. Now working as a clerk in the House of Commons, she supports MPs in shaping legislation.

Reflecting on her time at The NCS, Zereena credits the sixth form with giving her the confidence to break past limitations and forge her own path. I’m just really glad that I was able to go to a 6th form that is raising the standards in Newham and is helping students achieve their dreams, even dreams they didn’t know they had.”
