Approximately 1% of children and 3% of young people are estimated to be depressed. Adolescent girls are more than twice as likely to be depressed as boys. 

This Essential Knowledge Update (EKU13) discusses the diagnostic criteria and tools for assessing the symptoms/severity of children and young people with regards to depression. It also explores the treatment/referral of children and young people with depression.
