Ignoring time is a little idea I’ve been playing around with recently.
Interesting conversations starts on Sunday! Listen to the trailer here.
- I recently read The Big Leap, and it talks about a concept that we create our own time
- Einstein time - an idea I still don’t fully understand
- The problem with always paying attention to time:
-
- Pressure to get things done
- We always feel like we’re running out of time
- This problem somewhat disappears when we try and ignore time
- I’ve found this the most helpful when I’m really rushed for time: particularly on a morning
- I’ve been trying to ignore the time and just do the things I need to get done
- So instead of thinking “I only have 20 minutes to complete X”, I instead think “I have to complete X, no matter how long it takes”
- I’ve also been trying to drop the idea of “I haven’t got time to do X”, trying to remove it from my vocabulary
- Instead, I say: “I didn’t get that done.” OR “I didn’t want to do it”
- It wasn’t time’s fault I didn’t get it done, it was my fault for not wanting to do it.
- That’s why when you really need to do something for the day after, you’ll somehow manage to squeeze it in.
- I’m still exploring the idea, but I thought it’s worth sharing. It has more power that it seems to have at first, once you become aware of how much time we spend worrying about time
