Can meditation help you as a creative person? I talk about meditation, what it is, and how it can help.

  • First started experimenting with meditation over 4 years ago
  • I never stuck at though (maybe I approached it wrong)
  • It never developed into a habit
  • It only developed into a habit after reading The Miracle Morning
  • What is meditation? It doesn’t have to be much more than sitting in silence and focusing on your breathing
  • It is NOT trying to remove thoughts, or avoid thinking about things, or trying to get a quiet mind. Focusing on this makes your mind louder
  • I use Headspace for guided meditation
  • Meditation helps with mindfulness - the idea of being aware of your reactions, moods, mental state, body, everything
  • Meditation helps also with living in the present - not thinking about the future or past, not worrying needlessly about things you can’t change
  • Meditation helps with creativity - it helps you live in the present, and completely forget about everything else around you (but it takes time to develop, it isn’t a quick fix)
  • Meditation helps with distractions, or rather avoiding them
  • It’s helped me to be more comfortable in the moment, and have the patience to just sit and do nothing, not having to keep myself amused all the time with a phone
