YouTube Space Lab is a worldwide initiative challenging 14-18 year-olds to design science experiments to be performed in space.
A prestigious panel of scientists, astronauts, and educators will judge the entries with input from the YouTube community. Six regional finalists will gather in Washington, D.C. in March 2012 to experience a ZERO-G flight and receive other prizes. From them, two global winners, will have their experiments performed aboard the International Space Station, 250 miles above Earth, and live streamed on YouTube.
To say that we were thrilled at the prospect of creating the launch video for the SpaceLab project would be the understatement of the century; this kind of competition doesn’t come along twice - it would inspire and educate children all around the world about science. Kids would actually launch one of their very own experiments into space as well as bringing high quality content on the themes of science and space together on YouTube.
The video was born out of a simple, yet crazy, idea: why not put a teenager’s bedroom in zero gravity?
There was a lot of head-scratching and an immense amount of hard graft, but collectively we worked it all out - the talented Director Jack Cole, legendary SFX Builder Artem and creative genius Dan Andrew (Smoke & Mirrors) helped us turn this crazy idea into reality.
Shot on Red Epic & Phantom Flex.
