#24 Seven things you should never do when you talk about science (with Amy Aines - co-author of Championing Science)

Category: Science & Medicine
Duration: 00:37:55
Publish Date: 2022-02-15 05:00:00
Description:

In this episode I am joined by Amy Aines. Amy supports researchers to be more effective when talking about their science and she co-wrote the known scicomm book “Championing Science”.

If you listen to this episode, you will get to hear seven practical tips on how to get your points across and on the way to that also become a better public speaker.

The seven points are:

Before you speak

  1. Forget to smile and show warmth
  2. Take a technical talk and reuse it/start with existing slides

When You Speak

  1. Try to sound smart
  2. Put too much on one slide/too much detail
  3. Explain all the work you did
  4. Value precision over impact
  5. Ramble on without a clear message and call to action
