Drug Formularies: A Growing Trend In Workers’ Compensation with Ben Roberts
Today’s guest is Ben Roberts who explains the advantages and/or limitations of what a Drug formulary is and if your entity should consider it if the legislation and/or regulators in your state propose it as an option to help reduce certain prescribed drugs such as opioids.
Drug Formularies: A list of medications that may or may not be prescribed to an injured worker or patient. In regards to workers’ compensation a formulary is not referring to payment levels for reimbursement.
Patient safety, appropriate medications are being prescribed and dispensed to injured workers who have active workers’ compensation are the most important factors with drug formularies specific to workers’ compensation.
Where Drug Formularies are being Implemented in the United States
There are 9 different states who have implemented drug formularies – Arizona, Arkansas, California, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee and Washington some of which have only begun being implemented since this past July. |
