Description: Several fungi of the Cortinarius species contain the tubulotoxin orellanine, which causes severe AKI with a latency period of up to 3 weeks after ingestion. Besides sporadic case reports until now only 2 larger series of patients with Orellanus syndrome have been described in Poland 1957 and in France 1990. Due to the rareness of serious mushroom poisoning by Cortinarius orellanus (Fig. 1) only few data concerning therapeutic options and outcome exists. This study reports the largest series of AKI due to orellanine intoxication in Germany.
