“They’re not big children or small adults - young people have their own health needs and we really need to focus on that” - Dr Annapurna Nori
Author of the Health of Young People chapter in the Third edition of the National Guide, Dr Annapurna Nori, talks about the importance of preventative health for young people, including their social and emotional well being.
With over 15 years’ experience in Aboriginal primary healthcare in both Community Controlled and state funded services, Dr Nori explains the importance of communication between a GP and young person to establishing rapport. She discusses the significant areas for primary healthcare workers in the chapter including the lifecycle summary chart, the modified HEEADSSS assessment, the social and emotional wellbeing assessment, and the new recommendations for contraception and emergency contraception.
The National Guide is one of the most widely used clinical guidelines in Australia, supporting primary healthcare providers to understand what works in preventive healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
