Description: Interview with Chuck Hollis, global chief technology officer for EMC, one of the largest information management companies in the world. He talks about Big Data. Leon and Garry discuss issues including: How one of the most complicated missions ever attempted by NASA, the landing of the one-ton rover Curiosity inside a crater on Mars after a 500 million kilometre journey, has apparently gone without a hitch. How a submarine glider to explore the ocean of Europa, a solid-state air purification system and a way of making concrete out of lunar soil for Moon colonies are among the 28 proposals that NASA has selected for study and development under its NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) Program. Facebook has made a bold move into the online gambling space, allowing UK developer Gamesys to launch the platform's first real-money gaming app. Dubbed Bingo Friendzy, the app offers users a selection of bingo and slots games, allowing them to pay directly with cash rather than mediating their purchases through Facebook's Credits system. And Amazon is becoming like Facebook. Amazon is extending its vast online empire to the business of actually making video games, starting with the newly launched Living Classics, the fledgling studio's first Facebook game. Amazon is striking another blow at the traditional textbook industry by offering semester-long rentals of physical books. Amazon.com's UK wing claims its British customers are now buying more e-books than printed-on-paper editions. According to the online retailer, for every 100 print books sold in 2012 so far, 114 electronic tomes have been purchased.
