Transgender Thursday The Strong Stance

Category: Health
Duration: 01:01:00
Publish Date: 2014-04-24 20:00:00
Description: This past weekend I was the keynote speaker at Lavender Graduation at The University of Alabama and I was reminded of how different DC and Alabama can be with regard to queer and trans* rights. We often discuss issues on The Strong Stance and statistics on how those issues affect trans* people. Tonight we are going to take a step back and look at how these issues have affected one person in particular.  The featured guest tonight is Evan Higginbotham -- a transgender gay male, from Tuscaloosa Alabama. He is a junior at the University of Alabama, studying psychology, with a minor in addictive disorders and recovery. He is the 2014 recipient of Elliott Jackson Jones memorial scholarship for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Activism on the University of Alabama campus. He is also on scholarship and an active member of the Collegiate Recovery Community at the Capstone. He has helped to start a Trans* Support Group on campus. Evan actively pursues opportunities to stand up and speak out about the Transgender community. He shared a motivational poem at Trans* Remembrance Day entitled "I Am Me."
