Today, I am presenting an episode that I wanted to put out to all of you since the very beginning of this podcast.  The thing is…I avoided it until now.  The reason is that the subject matter is a sensitive one, and close to my heart.  I honestly started to try to develop this episode multiple times over the past year, and walked away since it affected me so deeply.  But I feel that it is vitally important to speak out about our subject matter today…child abuse.

 

Child abuse is physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, and/or neglect.  It can include both physical and mental injuries that last a lifetime.  It involves an abuse of power and a breach of trust, and even one event no matter how small can destroy lives.

 

But the stories that you are going to hear today are not small.  They are in fact some of the worst case scenarios, and I feel that it is important that they are remembered.  It is important that these children are remembered.  Today we will be talking about abuse so severe that it resulted in what is called a feral child.  A feral child is a human child who has lived isolated away from other human contact from a very young age.  They have little to no experience with human care, behaviours, or even language.  These children at times were victims of severe abuse, or trauma before running away or being abandoned.  They are sometimes are the subjects of folklore or legend, and are often portrayed as having been raised by animals.

 

So if you haven’t guessed it by now…we are going to be talking about some dark stuff today…listener discretion is advised.
