Description:

I hope everyone makes time for this episode. Why? We have a mental health crisis in Canada and our younger generation are most at risk. A crisis where 4,500 people in Canada took their own life last year. Break that number down, and it's twelve a day. This number does not consider the 200 Canadians who will attempt suicide today. Before the pandemic, 2.7% of adults in Canada reported suicidal ideations. Since then, that number has risen to 4.2% in 2021. As you will soon hear, they can be helped.

My guest this week is Nancy Xia, who wrote the book Leap Into the Mind of a Suicide. At age eighteen, in front of her loving father, Nancy made a desperate attempt to end her life. She jumped off her balcony to escape her darkness. Miraculously, Nancy survived an eight floor fall, but sustained a severe injury and will live with a physical disability for the rest of her life.

Two decades later, she is a happy and productive person who embraces life.

Nancy takes us back to her childhood and teen years and her constant obsession to take her own life to give you a better understanding of mental illness from her minds eye. We then travel with Nancy as she slowly reclaims her appetite for life and finds a higher purpose to help others.

Amy Deacon, the Founder and CEO of Toronto Wellness, returns to the show to talk about how many youths we are losing to despair, why, and how we can counter this societal crisis.

It is a show not to be missed and one I hope you listen to, discuss and share.
