Description: SHOW NOTES KEY IDEAS:  I have been wanting to interview somebody who owns a livestock transportation business for a while.  But, I wanted to find someone who was transporting smaller animals, in addition to horses.  I found this person in Mari Worley. Mari and her husband Bill started Worley's Hauling over 20 years ago after going to a horse swimming exhibition and sale and realizing that a lot of people were buying horses and had no way to get them home.  They decided to return to the sale the next year with their horse trailer and hire out to folks needing a horse taken home. Over the past 20 years the business has evolved to a coast to coast transport company with a lot more than just horses going in their trailer.  Over this time Mari and Bill have dealt with every contingency you could think of and they have prepared themselves with tools, extra parts and a reserve bank account to keep them moving down the road at all costs. If this is a business you have been considering, this is the interview you have been waiting for. ADVICE FROM MARI: COMMUNICATE: Make sure that you are always communicating with your customers.  They want to know how your progress with their animals is coming.  So, a quick telephone call to update them goes a long way.  And, if you are delayed or something has happened, call them and keep them in the loop. GUARD: Guard your reputation ferociously in this business.  Once somebody says something bad about you it is hard to overcome that.  This is true even if it was unwarranted.  So, do not give anyone the opportunity to say anything bad that can get posted on the internet. PERSONAL HABIT THAT HELPS MARI SUCCEED: TALKING: Mari is a talker, and Bill is the driver.  This works about well because Mari believes strongly in communication and her ability to talk sensibly about what is going on develops rapport and trust with their customers.
