If you struggle with disordered eating, binges, obsessive thoughts about food or if you always feel like you’re in survival mode and filled with anxiety or fear, going on a diet to lose weight isn’t going to fix this. In fact, it will likely make it worse. I urge you to dig deeper and do some healing on the issues that are contributing to not feeling safe in your body, not feeling safe around food, and not feeling safe in your world. Growing in a highly dysfunctional home and/or having a history of physical or emotional abuse or a history of sexual trauma can be important factors to consider when it comes to your ability to lose weight and keep it off. Many of my clients have cravings and eat emotionally because of the stress of these events and the recent metoo# movement has shed light on this important subject.
