In this episode of Sense-Making in a Changing World, we take a dive into the kind of education the planet (and humanity) needs us to share with the young people in our lives ... of all ages. My guest is author, educator, activist and cultural creative - Lucy Legan. Lucy has recently launched her latest book, Planet Schooling . She is also co-founder of the most substantial permaculture/regenerative education centre in Latin America, Ecocentro IPEC which she started about 25 years ago in Brazil with her partner, Andre Soares that has hosted thousands of learners and visitors. Lucy like me lives and breathes a permaculture life and I am so inspired by the work that she has done around the world following her passion for earth care, people care and fair share. She has implemented permaculture and ecoliteracy education programs (planet schooling) in so many contexts - from schools to festivals around the world.
I invite you to join us in this conversation about the many dimensions of planet schooling. It's a brilliant concept - a platform for schools and homeschoolers alike. Particularly as education has been turned on it's head this past year, and we need to reconceptualise what education is for, what is at the core of what we teach, how we share it and where it happens.
LUCY'S NEW BOOK Planet Schooling - How to create a permaculture living laboratory in your backyard Lucy explores how very garden has the potential to equip the young people in our lives with the skills to create their future. She has included more than 150 activities for all ages of children from K-12. Essentially this book is a creative and fun practical guide to constructing a living laboratory in your own backyard (or front yard, balcony, verge, school ....).
