Vale, ma’am: The Queen remembered

Category: News & Politics
Duration: 00:37:11

Description:

After a reign lasting 70 years, Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully at her Balmoral estate in Scotland on Thursday. She was 96.

The Queen was many things to many people. A monarch, a mother, a head of state, a wife, a global icon whose influence reached far beyond the Commonwealth.

If her reign was characterised by strength, stoicism, and duty, her death will be remembered as a deeply personal loss. She is succeeded by her eldest son Charles, who now becomes King Charles III, at a time of intense political and economic change in Britain.

Today on Please Explain, Julia Naughton is joined by Europe correspondent Rob Harris, who is on the ground in London following this story, as well as special writer Tony Wright who reflects on his time with Her Majesty having joined her on many royal tours over the years.
