Disturbing new research released this week has highlighted how endemic the issue of sexual violence is across Australia. Despite what feels like an increased focus on the issue and additional resources being spent by all levels of government, rates of sexual violence aren’t on the decline, in fact they’re going up.
So is it a case of our policy approach missing the mark, or are we just not doing enough? It turns out the answer might lie in the way we’re teaching young people about sex and consent, especially in our schools.
